Import Stripe into Tally Assistant

Stripe's dashboard offers downloads of balance transactions and payouts as CSV files.

Freelancers and small businesses collecting card and subscription payments through Stripe, including SaaS-style recurring revenue.

Quick Answer

Tally Assistant imports Stripe balance-transaction CSVs with gross, fee, and net amounts per row, so card and subscription revenue lands in your books with fees visible. Refunds and disputes come through as their own categorized rows. Import is file-based, not a Stripe account connection.

Best for

  • Freelancers and micro-SaaS owners collecting recurring card payments
  • Anyone who wants per-transaction fees visible, not hidden in a net total
  • Businesses exporting Stripe data for their own bookkeeping anyway

Not ideal for

  • Businesses that need Stripe to update Tally Assistant automatically
  • Cash-only freelancers with no Stripe account

No live Stripe connection. You re-export the CSV when you want fresh data, and payouts and balance transactions are separate exports.

Get your Stripe records

  1. 1Sign in to your Stripe dashboard and open the Balance or Transactions area.
  2. 2Use the download or export option and choose CSV, with the date range you want.
  3. 3Save the file and upload it directly to Tally Assistant.

What happens after upload

  • Balance transaction CSVs import with gross amounts, fees, and net amounts as separate columns, so you see what Stripe charged per transaction.
  • Refunds and disputed payments appear as their own rows and are categorized accordingly.
  • Subscription and recurring payments import the same way, which makes monthly recurring revenue easy to verify.

What to watch out for

  • Balance transaction exports and payout exports are different files. Import the balance transactions for revenue tracking; payouts mainly matter if you want the transfer timing.
  • Fees are charged per transaction in Stripe, so the CSV shows them per row rather than as one monthly total.
  • Stripe test-mode data looks the same in export. Make sure you export from live mode.

Questions

Does the import show Stripe fees?

Yes. The balance transaction CSV contains gross amount, fee, and net amount columns. Tally Assistant imports all three, and the fee lands as an expense so your reported revenue is the real number.

How do subscription payments import?

Exactly like one-off payments. Each subscription charge is a transaction row with its own fee, categorized to the client. Recurring revenue is easy to verify per month.

Should I import balance transactions or payouts?

Balance transactions, for revenue tracking. Payouts show when money actually reached your bank, which overlaps with your bank import. If you import both, categorize the payout rows as transfers to avoid double counting.
